Why Artists Need to Use an Email Newsletter

by Clint Watson on 5/11/2009 11:15:26 AM

Just received the following email from one of our readers:

Clint,So you inspired me. Thanks for continuing to tell artists that a mailing list and newsletter are important. It took me less than a week to put [my email newsletter] together and I have already sold two paintings from the email ... in less than three days.

Leslie Saeta

Now, go set up your email newsletter and change the world.

Sincerely,

Clint Watson

PS - Take a look at Leslie's artwork when you get a chance.

Clint,
Just read your article---something about embracing--and chasing the sweet success---whatever---can't find it here to comment. I have been reading your articles when they come in---I enjoy them so much--and find so helpful. There was one comment I wanted to make on the aformentioned article---you said to practice being better everyday. And then remember that other group of articles that came out (few months back?) about how an artist should be consistant---not change their art because, well, you know the rest. And it was controversial. I, as an artist, trying to be the best artist I can be (and who will put my work on your sight when my new series is finished) always strive to improve---to be as great as Sargent. So how can a true artist stay where they are at? They cannot. A true artist---and we have all seen the evolution of the great artists----is constantly changing---constantly improving. Other wise you're a hack. right?

Maureen,

It was I who wrote the article on "Choosing your rut carefully". But the next article by Keith Bond took the other side and said artists can indeed change and not lose their loyal audience.

Clint's views might be different from mine and mine are often different from the others. Just pick the view that strikes a chord with your ambitions.
Lori
