Art Marketing with Email Newsletters - Stories from the Wild

by Clint Watson on 5/13/2009 9:11:05 AM

Another artist is making sales....due to email newsletters, got another note a few days ago:

I have been using my newsletter a fair bit lately.... mostly because a lot of good news has come my way. This is a good thing. I also had asked people to forward my emails to others who might be interested and this has resulted in some good connections and SALES!!! (Yippee) About a month ago I also started adding a link at the end of the newsletter for people who were reading it (who hadn''t originally signed up) to sign up for the newsletter AND I put a similar thing on several blog posts. The result is that in the last 6 weeks I''ve had about 10 new people subscribe to the newsletter.

A few days later, I received the following:

Clint,So you inspired me. Thanks for continuing to tell artists that a mailing list and newsletter are important. It took me less than a week to put [my email newsletter] together and I have already sold two paintings from the email ... in less than three days.

Leslie Saeta

Many artists are selling....even in this economy....are you?

Sincerely,

Clint Watson

PS - Now, go change the world.

I have also had good sales from my e-newsletter since I added a "featured painting" with a link back to my website - where the painting can be purchased through PayPal. In the past two months I've sold five paintings through my e-newsletter. One of the paintings was one that I had in a gallery, so the image link went straight to the gallery's website, and they made the sale. So for anyone who wonders if it is worth the effort to set up and write an e-newsletter, the answer is a resounding YES!

I have my website through Fine Art Studio Online, which offers an easy to use newsletter template and the ability to email up to 500 subscribers. Between that and the ability to setup a blog that resides right on my website, I have little excuse to not communicate with my collectors and potential collectors.

BTW, more than half the people who bought paintings from my e-newsletter had not bought a painting from me before.

Of course! What an excellent idea - to ask your subscribers to forward your newsletter to people who they think would enjoy reading it and seeing your latest artwork.

Thanks Marion!

By the way Marion, I took your advice and asked my newsletter subscribers to forward my newsletter to their friends, and it worked!

I didn't sell anything (it's been only one day) but the referrals subscribed. Thanks!
