From those bites, you’ll learn what works, and what doesn’t, and if you make an error on one person’s order, or two people’s, you can do what the mega-corporations increasingly don’t do: You can write the person individually, explain the situation, apologize, and make it right. The Problem With Painting Workshops

So here's the deal. Take those workshops, copy those museum masterpieces until you've reached a level of true proficiency. Then stop all that. Pack up your paint box easel and spend some serious time digesting the world around you. Slow down, even when you think you're wasting time. We are creating a product, and in selling the product, if we are so inclined, we should treat it as any business. [...]

It's a Trite Saying but... You Really do Have to Believe in Yourself

I believe that I can make a living from my painting. It may not be today. It may not be tomorrow. However, I am constantly working on my skills and my marketing so that I can become a full-time painter. I'm not looking for the magic lottery ticket. My optimism is based on work, marketing and being prepared for situations that will come up. [...]

We often think of art this way, as taking from the world around us and translating it into a new expression. People look at art and try to see the world in the painting. Even in abstraction, modernism, expressionism and any totally non-subjective work the viewer looks for the world - at least to find harmonies of color, shape and texture. [...]
