The Frame Game
by Natasha Isenhour on 5/28/2010 10:21:41 AM | 186 Comments |
|
To frame or not to frame, that is the question. It isn’t really a choice on a lot of work. Either way you choose to finish your work, to gallery wrap and paint or to frame, speaks volumes about the pride you take in your work itself. [...]

Evaluating Opportunities
by Keith Bond on 5/24/2010 1:43:04 PM | 32 Comments |

Once in a while I get other artists asking my advice or opinion about such shows. My thoughts today are a bit more generalized to be applicable to many different art venues for all types of artists. [...]

Don't Fret the Lost Opportunities
by Keith Bond on 5/17/2010 1:03:16 PM | 26 Comments |
|
One thing is for certain. Each idea is unique and comes along only once. When it is gone it shall never return. Similar ideas will certainly come, but not the exact same one. Inspiration waits for no one. [...]

There is no doubt that these are frustrating times. But it is not just the "economy." The times are also changing. And the combination of a number of individual factors have meshed to create a time of seeming instability, anxiety and negativity. It's a good time to remember that you cannot always change what is happening around you, but you can change how you react to it! [...]

How to be More Productive Part 1
by Luann Udell on 5/13/2010 12:31:10 PM | 27 Comments |
|
I consider myself a professional artist and writer. After all, I get paid to do it.
And since I am a professional, I have incredibly professional work habits. I regularly schedule time to work on my fiber pieces, to make new art jewelry, to write my columns. All is serene and orderly in my work space.
Wait for it…… [...]

Artists Teaching in Art Tours
by Moshe Mikanovsky on 5/11/2010 8:20:49 AM | 24 Comments |

Art Tours. Artists' Workshops Abroad. Whatever you call them, I have always wanted to take one of these exciting vacations – fly to a far foreign land, with beautiful landscapes, hundreds and thousands of years of history carved in every stone and building, and just forget about the daily routine and immerse myself in painting. [...]

Just because the economy is poor does not mean people have stopped buying art. Dare to be different, address the needs and wants of your buying public and you'll make art sales a reality you can take to the bank. [...]

Artists' Business Plans
by Lori Woodward on 5/5/2010 12:43:52 PM | 32 Comments |
|
In my opinion, artists don't need to spend a lot of time on detailed business plans. I've gone the "detailed" route, but in the end, unexpected opportunities cropped up, so a lot of what I had planned on, never happened. Rather than set my business plans in stone, I have learned to simply set some principles to follow. [...]

Commissioned Art
by Keith Bond on 5/3/2010 2:08:47 PM | 42 Comments |
|
As artists, we have greater power and opportunity now to take our career into our own hands. Galleries don’t need to be part of the business model (but can be). Art directors and design agencies don’t need to be part of your strategies (but they can be). Most important, however, is that you take control of marketing yourself. Don’t rely on anyone else to do it for you. [...]
