Artist Karen Dean Ford
Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, Karen's love of art began as a small child. She has some of her earlier drawings from when she was five years old. Karen started painting when she was 17 years old and after trying different mediums, she fell in love with oils. She has attended various painting classes.Karen is married and has two children. After having children, she quit painting for 8 years to devote that time to her family. She started painting again in 1999. She lives in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Natchitoches is famous for the Annual Christmas Festival of Lights which is portrayed in the movie "Steel Magnolia's". Her painting "I Am" won the Viewers' Choice Award at the Annual Tom Peyton Memorial Arts Festival held at the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria, La. on April 12, 2002.Limited Edition Prints of "I Am" and "Crown of Thorns" are available for purchase. Part of the proceeds goes to the House of Mercy, a homeless shelter for women, a ministry of The Pentecostals of Alexandria.
