Artist Gordon Alcorn
Gordon has been involved in the arts since his early years. His wood carving started in the mid 70's, which evolved into carving working decoys and decorative decoys for competition. This led to working for 10 years at Big Sky Carvers in production and designing patterns for some of their work. Cigar store Indians, chainsaw bears, fireplace mantels, carvings on doors, and carved signs have been some of the other objects he has carved.
The engraving has been added to his art work in just the last few years. Since engraving metal is very similar to carving wood (on a much smaller scale), the switch from carving wood has been fairly smooth. Engraving metal is one of the toughest skills he has learned, and has taken many hours of study, including a one-on-one study with Ray Cover in Missouri.
In 2014, Gordon submitted his work to the Firearm Engraver's Guild of America for certification as a Master Engraver. and was judged worthy of the FEGA Master Engraver designation.
