Artist Sharey Monk
The Artist Says:
The teacup series arose from my great appreciation for the unique hand-painted decorations on these familiar shapes and of course from my enjoyment of their purpose and intention.
Sharey’s first home was Victoria, Canada where she began her life-long enjoyment of afternoon tea and appreciation for the artistic components of traditional tea service. Her earliest forays into the world of art centered on still life color studies along with detailed exploration of the pattern and graphic design of the objects we encounter every day.
In her undergraduate education Sharey majored in design and fine art and later she went on to found and operate a design studio business that focused on importing design products from over 300 European manufacturers. Moving to Northern California in 1980 Sharey returned to her passion for drawing/design by pursuing studies at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco ultimately graduating with an MFA in painting.
Sharey’s work hangs in collections in Canada, England, and across the US. As an artist she has had the good fortune to study with accomplished and recognized instructor/painters at the Academy of Art University such as Brian Blood, Dean Larson, Huihan Liu, William Maughan, Carolyn Meyer, Craig Nelson, Randal Sexton, and Zhaoming Wu.
Sharey is currently a member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, the Portrait Society of America and California Art Club.
