Biography

Jill Musser
oil on canvas

My art work is an impressionistic expression of still life which I call Fresh Produce and Flowers. These paintings incorporate a simplified, uncluttered foreground and background to emphasize the color and texture of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Colorful, energetic brush strokes and the palette knife technique give a strong, painterly impact that I enjoy. I prefer painting in oil from life in the ala prima style, usually finishing the painting in one or two sessions. This allows me to maintain the same energy and mood throughout the painting process.  It's all about the oil paint expressing vibrant color and interesting texture. As my paintings evolve, I often see an imaginary light source or lighting effect that seems to come in on its own, projecting an ethereal feel to the painting. I am always open to this, and I let it develop as it will. Communicating through my artwork is a tremendously exciting and rewarding lifetime endeavor.

My paintings have been widely collected in the United States and Canada for three decades. Over the years, they have been awarded various recognitions, including Best Traditional Artist and Best of Show in juried and invitational shows. Several paintings were acquired by McGraw-Hill for their corporate collection. I am a long time resident of Colorado. After studying fine arts at Colorado State University, I pursued advanced painting studies both here and abroad. Honored to be selected for Quang Hos prestigious Professional Studies Class at the Art Students League of Denver (1999), I consider that experience among my most profound artistic influences.

My artwork ranges in price from $200 to $5,000. The paintings in my possession follow the same pricing as the gallery pricing. Paintings are priced unframed unless otherwise noted. Many paintings are gallery wrapped, 1.5" deep. All images of the artwork are copyrighted and may not be reproduced [...]
